Ruby-crowned Kinglet

While out for a walk I saw this little guy and he
brightened my day. As you can see I was in a shady area so this shot
is not so bright.

But he is in the sun in this shot.
I was not sure what he was, but my twitter friends ID'd him
as a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
The males have a little tuft of red on their head that shows whey they
are excited. Too bad I didn't get to see that!
More info on this little bird is found on Wikipedia - HERE

  7. He's a real cutie! I wonder is it embarassing for him when the little red thingy shows? I would be!
Isn't he very well disguised in both shots?

  12. Aren't Birds great? A few years ago, a small green-hued bird sat on a branch near an upstairs window. I stepped closer and he put his head down & I thought I was seeing things. There was a bright red spot on top of his head. Ran to get the camera but he was gone. I identified him as a Ruby Crowned Kinglet. Well here in San Antonio, we're having unusually cold weather so I've put out seeds, suet, etc. Guess what? A RC Kinglet has been here on & off every day for a week. I'm doing my best to get pics from my kitchen window, but hard to catch him in the sun to show his beautiful green color. Of course, there are also the Yellow-fronted Woodpecker, Cardinals, Bluejays, Wrens, Sparrows, Mockingbirds, etc. Love 'em all. Joy
