Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Aren't those feathers awesome??
This has to be one of my all time favorite birds. (but don't I say that about them all?)To find one in my yard is absolute heaven! I'm sure there are MANY great things about Winter - but my favorite thing about winter is that I can see the birds better.
What is your favorite thing about Winter?

She's definitely a beauty for a female bird.
My favorite thing about winter? Where I live it means that we can walk around most times in our shirt sleeves or a light jacket and don't have to run the air conditioner! We always have beautiful roses in Phoenix during the winter months and they're my favorite flower to photograph.
Excellent work Kerri! Are you using Topaz program to put finishing polish to it?
Wow - check out the color - and the texture in that fluffy birdie! How fun for you to be able to capture them in their glory!
Like you - my favourite thing is the birds that the winter brings to my home. (And being a boring bloke I have to admit that the fact that it is the UK soccer season is a plus!)
Gorgeous pictures. My favorite thing about winter,HMMM,less outside work, consequently more computer time.:)
Blessings,Ruth
Good point about winter Kerri. Now if this snow keeps coming like it has the last few days I may be ready for an early spring ;)
Kerri
Those are beautiful shots.
I have never seen a Sapsucker with such vivid colors.
That's another bird we don't have over here! Beautiful. My favourite thing about winter is walking in fresh snow!
Beautiful shots Kerri!
Really pretty, and super shots.Love your birds Kerri.
The best thing about winter is that it is followed by spring. Wonderful bird shot today!
Awsome! My favorite thing about winter is when it ends and the sap runs!
She's very lovely and seemed quite content in your yard. Lucky you :)
Wow! that is an awesome bird! I hope I get to see one of those!
Thanks for the tip on the chair. I googled it. Looks really interesting! I may just have to invest in one of those! Thanks!
We were just talking about the yellow bellied sapsucker today. My husband first heard of the bird watching The Beverly Hillbillies as a child!
You are so awesome. Just like the feathers!
Awesome shots of the birds you have!
You sure have a lot of different birds in your yard. Another beautiful shot.
What a gorgeous bird. I've never seen one. :)
Love this Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker Series!
I just love your Yellow-bellied Sapsuckershots!!
What a treat, your photo is wonderful. I have never seen one.
Our winter means rain, rain brings the greening of the hills. We have a lovely mountain from our backyard view. It is about a quarter of a mile away. It is greening. :>
God has greatly gifted you
I enjoyed visiting your blog

My favorite thing about the winter is sitting in the warmth of a fire and watch it very slowly die.
Awwww... I love her!! I happened to see one over at my parents house the other day... course, no camera did I have...drats! Thanks for sharing your girl with us. She's just beautiful!
Magnificent pictures of the female Sapsucker. That's one bird I keep looking for and haven't found yet.
Love your bird shots ! And what a variety you get.
What I love about winter is a good snow storm - it seems to bring people together since it really slows us down !
How is it possible for so many colors, textures, and patterns to be on one bird? Just amazing, Kerri! I love the special light of winter - often blue - but not the blue of disappointment.
You've got a point. It's always cool when the leaves drop and suddenly you can see so much more of the land you've been walking, and where so many things have been living! That bird truly does have incredible plumage. Gorgeous photos.
You are very talented, these images are not easy to capture.
I'm amazed at the beautiful birds you've managed to capture. This one may be the most beautiful of all. Gorgeous images!!!
Well, you got me there about the good aspects of winter. I guess I dislike winter is the temps around 0, that is tough on the hands.
Yes I guess that when you get so nice shot of one species, then you can be happy that the leaves did fell in autumn ;-) Gorgeous shots you got!
Great shot!! It´s abeatiful bird!!!
Congratulations!!Best regards from Delta of Llobregat!!
She is beautiful, Kerri,
The ONLY thing I like about winter is that life slows down. I'm not so busy. No garden...no yard work...no picnics on the grass... I usually have more time to write and cozy up with a book to stay warm. Never have time for that in the summer!
whata beautiful treasure you lucky girl-- life cycles...
Wonderful shots. Yesterday I was thinking a similar thought--how good it is to have so much blue to take in--how good to see it!
What a gorgeous bird! Great shots.
I love sun shining on snow - that's truly magical!
Those feathers are definately awesome! Wow. Beautiful photos! :)
What lovely pictures. Beautiful bird...
Beautiful photo! My favorite thing about winter is that it is almost over!! woohoo!!! Actually, even though they are dangerous, I love when the ice fog hits and covers all the vegetation with the frosty white ice!! Love it!!
Congrats on the POTW

I've never seen that kind of bird before, and the articulation (is that the correct word? No clue, but it feels like it should be) of the colors, and feathers is really quite breathtaking. You're right, these wonderful splashes of color in an otherwise gray winter are just amazing to behold.
Such a lovely photograph, and congratulations on the post of the week mention over at Hilary's blog. You know, I was never the biggest fan of birds. I actually was afraid of them as a child, but I can honestly say through HIlary's blog directing me to such gifted photographers, I see how much beauty I've been previously missing. Thank you.
Congrats on POTW mention from Hilary
A beautiful bird and a remarkable photograph...congratulations on being chosen by Hilary as one of her POTWs!!
Kerrie, these are beautiful shots.
I see from previous comments that you got a POTW mention- very well deserved.! Congratulations!
My favourite thing about winter is sitting in front of a big fire, drinking tea and eating Christmas cake! And looking at your bird photos, particularly the ones with snow in them.
Simple pleasures!
