Another amazing creature with a firm grip on a blade of grass! These little guys are so very interesting. They seem to hover over the grass until they find just the right spot to take hold. When I first started blogging I thought these little guys were dragonflies ~ but actually they are damselflies. I'm sure there are many differences between the two but the main one I know of is the way they hold their wings. Damselflies hold them close to their body, while the dragonfly has them wide open. Id'd by Randy as an Eastern Red Damsel.
oh, that's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteKerri,
ReplyDeleteThat is an Eastern Red Damsel, Amphiagrion saucium. A very good find indeed. Well done also.
Definitely a 'wonder in red'!!!
ReplyDeleteMy Ruby Tuesday. I do hope to see you drop by for a visit with me today.
I am happy to see Randy identified it for you as I am in the learning curve as far as this type of insect is concerned. I also thank you for letting us know the difference between damselflies and dragonflies. It's a fantastic photo, and the lighting is perfect. Love the coloring from the damselfly to the green of the leaves.
ReplyDeleteA really wonderful photo, Kerri. You're a genius with that camera.
ReplyDeleteOh they must eat also.
ReplyDeleteHappy RT

Lovely damselfly! See there? I learned something new again. Your blog is educational AND beautiful. ;o) Thanks Kerri - beautiful photo... I feel like I'm repeating myself... lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic picture of the little damselfly - she was so gracious to sit still while you snapped her photo for Ruby Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of a Damselfly! I learned something new today. Thank you! Kerri, you are the queen of macro. Great capture ... and, as always, thanks for sharing such beauty.
ReplyDeleteOne of Natures wonders, and you captured it well Kerri.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I haven't seen any dragonflies here lately but the weather has turned very warm so I'm sure it won't be long!
ReplyDeleteLovely damselfly, I would have thought dragonfly too. Very interesting about the wings. Will watch for that from now on. I was out with my hubby last weekend and he made a comment about how it would be nice to see a dragonfly. I smiled because the first thing I thought of was you and your recent dragonfly hunt :) Your photos are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour photography is brilliant. I am so enjoying your blog.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo of a damsel fly. Those are very hard to photograph. Just when you got the camera set, they fly away.
ReplyDeleteSplendid detail of this wonderful creature!
ReplyDeleteWell I come here and I get a little lesson - I like that (I would have called that a dragonfly too). Superb shot!
ReplyDeleteWow Keri, that is stunning!
