Wednesday

Walking on Water

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people, and the affection of children. To earn the appreciation of honest critics, and endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know that even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Macro Monday - Making Memories

I took my Mom flowers today.
The last time I visited, she didn't remember I had been there an hour after
I left. I thought seeing the flowers later today and tomorrow might
remind her that I brought them.....that I was there for a visit.
But it's OK if she doesn't remember...... because I remember.
I remember how happy she is when I visit.
I remember what a beautiful smile she has and how sweet she looks.
I remember the way she and Dad joke around together.
I remember how she always wants to wash the dishes but finally she
relents and lets me take over.
I am in the Memory Making business. I want to make as many memories
with her and my Dad that I can.
I made a Memory today :)

Bringing Color

Blue wings on a branch
Drives the gray away
Bringing color to my world

Each time I go out to shoot I tell myself I'll take pics of something else.
Then these beautiful creatures show up and I get so caught up in
trying to capture the "perfect" shot that thoughts of anything else just
fly right out of my head.

This is a far from perfect shot. I was very far away so I had to crop it a lot
so it has that grainy look you get from close cropping.
This was my first bluebird shot of 2010. If you look closely - you can
see that this bluebird has been banded. I don't have bluebirds in my yard - so they
are an extra special treat when I see them.

A Most Amazing Day

Image made 01-16-10
This was taken during a photography outing of several hours at Bisset Park in Radford, Virginia
On this day I took 961 pictures and got several "firsts". My first ever Gull in flight.
and my first ever Hawk shot.
I saw Red-bellied Woodpeckers and Downy Woodpeckers.
Bluebirds and Song Sparrows too.
And of course - the squirrels were out!
It seemed like all the animals were enjoying this beautiful day along with me.
It was a Wonderful Saturday

One Action at a Time

Human successes, like human failures, are composed of one action at a time and achieved by one person at a time.

Male Cardinal - That Windblown Look

This male cardinal reminded me of the pic of the woman over the
grate in the sidewalk that gets her dress blown up....here his
feathers are getting "blown up".
I know I post a lot of cardinal pics - but they are just so photogenic!

Saturday

Sunshine Sits on a Branch

Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point. Climb slowly, steadily, enjoying each passing moment; and the view from the summit will serve as a fitting climax for the journey.
~Harold B. Melchart

I hope you all are enjoying the climb to the mountain :) I know I am!

Kindness

One of the words that has been on my heart for a LONG LONG time is KINDNESS.
Kindness is something you can show a stranger as well as a close friend.
Sometimes it's a smile when you pass along the street,
holding the door for someone,
allowing a car to merge in front of you.
Sometimes it's holding your tongue when that car cuts in front of you.
Kindness is tolerating and accepting
a different point of view - even though you don't agree with it.
Sometimes it's just lending a helping hand.

Can you imagine the world if everyone was Kind to one another?
Oh, what a wonderful world it would be :)

Choices

On a daily basis, I would assume that there are hundreds of choices that we make.
What to wear, what to read, what to eat etc.
Included in those are our "attitude" choices.
In the past I allowed certain situations that were beyond my control dictate how I looked at other things in my life.
I CHOOSE not to do that anymore
I CHOOSE to be Optimistic
I CHOOSE to be Happy
I CHOOSE to be Caring.
Better attitude choices  - that's what I'm striving for!

Taking a Closer Look

Love the Moment

~
Don't wish the days away
Love the moment you're in
Even when times are rough
There are still moments to be cherished
and
Wonderful memories to be made
