Birds with Long Tongues

Hummingbird sticking it's tongue out.

Red-bellied Woodpecker - stretching his tongue to reach the peanut butter.
I think most woodpeckers have long tongues like this.
I think it's pretty cool!!

  2. Very cool. I've seen the hummingbird tongue in photos before but never the woodpecker. Nicely captured.

  4. I had no idea! Kerri, your photos are wonderful teachers. Do you just say, "Now stick your tongue out and hold still?"

  8. Fabulous! I love observing birds doing what they do and Hummingbirds are one of my favorites. They are strong yet delicate all in one tiny, little body. If they are protecting their young, they will even swoop down to warn a human! Very intriguing little birds!

    Beautiful photos!
