I watched while the White-breasted Nuthatch took a seed/nut - hid it behind some tree bark - and back he came for more. I don't recall him ever eating these as he took them - just hiding them. I guess he was saving them for later :)
Wishing you a Wonderful Day!
Wow you're so lucky to have seen that. Great shot :)
ReplyDeletewow! nice record of this behavior! :)
ReplyDeleteHow cute -- I don't recall ever seeing ours do that. Great capture Kerri. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I do now that I am eating healthier. I hide the bad food and try to forget where I put it.
ReplyDeleteOh. I didn't know they did that! Good photo, too, my friend ~
ReplyDeleteBird work, bird play. Great capture. Always a fun visit here.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
It's amazing what you learn when you sit quietly and observe.
ReplyDeleteGood idea to put a little away for a rainy day. Wonderful shot! They are beautiful birds!
ReplyDeletewish we had more of these guys here. see them so rarely, if ever.
ReplyDeleteGosh, didn't know they actually did that. The photo is quite lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat close-up of bird behavior, Kerri! One of our huge trees closest to the feeder must be filled with seeds. I see the nuthatches hiding their seeds in the bark constantly. So cute!
ReplyDeleteWonderful image. Thanks for the description.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully crisp capture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great clear shot you got there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteBirds are a lot like we are, aren't they? Sometimes thinking not just about the present but also about the future.
: )
Nice shot Kerry, they are a fascinating bird to watch as they tuck seeds into bark here and there. I've always wondered how they remember where they hid them...
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness what a beauty.
ReplyDeleteSome of our birds are back and some still need to find the way.
I always wondered where those nuthatches flew off to with their nuts! So cute!

Another great one. You capture truly amazing bird happenings.
ReplyDeleteI've never noticed nuthatches doing this! I always see the chickadees flying off with seeds. I will have to watch the nuthatches a little closer!
